Field Explorers Camp Instructor

Department: Center Education & Public Program
Location: Chicago, IL

Our Mission: Since the 1893 World Columbian Exposition, our organization has aimed to connect people to the natural environment and human history.

The Field Explorers Camp Instructor is a term position on the Family Learning Experiences team within the Learning Center of the Field Museum. Camp programs invite learners ages 5-14 to engage with the unique resources of the Field Museum—collections, research, expeditions, expertise, and stories—with scaffolded curricula tailored for Grades K-8.

Field Explorers Instructors are responsible for enacting written camp curricula and making suggestions for activities based on their knowledge and experience, as well as ensuring a camper-centric and dynamic experience. This position is responsible for managing a group of up to 24 campers, ensuring their safety throughout the camp session and facilitating an exciting summer learning experience. Instructors are scheduled for specific camps based on their availability, age-group experience, and content background. This position will report directly to the Camps Program Administrator and will lead a teaching team that includes two Teaching Assistants during each camp session.

Field Explorers Instructors are expected to attend mandatory trainings, review the curriculum before camp, ask questions, and enhance the curriculum with their own strengths and background knowledge. Importantly, they will be open to and expected to practice flexibility.
