The Field Museum invites applications for an Assistant Curator of Amphibians and Conservation Ecologist. We seek PhD-level candidates demonstrating excellence in collections-based research and applied conservation. The successful candidate may have a research program based in comparative biology but should be able to integrate conservation ecology, especially with respect to amphibians, into their work. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a robust externally-funded research program, to add to the specimen and genetic tissue collections for reptiles and amphibians, as well as contribute to the management and oversight of the Museum's herpetology collection, lead collaborative biological surveys of remote areas including in the Neotropics, integrate social and biological information for decision-makers to help establish effective conservation areas, pursue opportunities in education, outreach, and professional service, and contribute to the Museum's administration and public programs.

The Field Museum's herpetology collection is one of the largest in the Western Hemisphere and houses over 300,000 specimens. Our reptile and amphibian collection is the sixth largest in the U.S.A., and the amphibian collection includes over 160,000 cataloged specimens. The Museum has core facilities for molecular lab work, SEM and light microscopy, and high-performance computing.The Museum has decades of experience translating science into conservation and quality of life results on the ground in the Andes-Amazon and Guiana Shield regions of South America, and the greater Chicago area. Close relationships with universities, such as the University of Chicago and DePaul University, provide abundant opportunities for undergraduate and graduate training, and the use of specialized laboratories.

Qualifications:

This is a full-time 10-month curator position with a joint appointment in the Negaunee Integrative Research Center and the Keller Science Action Center. The renewal schedule is 3 + 3 years; after successful promotion to the Associate level, it is renewable every 7 years, according to the Field Museum's Policy Statement on the Curatorial Ranks, with additional consideration given to conservation impact.
