Exhibitions Digital Project Manager

The Exhibitions Digital Project Manager (EDPM) serves as the point person for exhibition-based digital and technology-based projects. The EPDM coordinates the development, design, production, installation, and de-installation of digital projects that are either stand-alone (i.e. digital rails) or integrated within a larger exhibition program (i.e. touch tables within exhibitions). They lead the digital project team and are the conduit of information between the project team and other museum departments and contractors.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate development, design, production, and installation of digital elements within larger exhibition projects
  • Create a strategic project plan, including scope of work, timeline (including production calendar and deliverables schedule), and budget. Facilitate weekly team meetings conduct department-wide milestone meetings, and provide necessary production resources and documents to the project team
  • When the project is a part of a greater exhibition, work with the Exhibition Project Manager to enfold individual element’s production within broader schedule and process
  • Facilitate team concept development discussions that articulate experience goals and learning objectives, as well as inform element integration within a larger exhibition framework
  • Utilize knowledge of web and app-based development processes, user experience principles, and design guidelines to provide feedback at all phases: concept and content development, wire-framing, interface design, prototyping, installation, and troubleshooting
  • Help team prepare for internal milestone checkpoints that demonstrate project is being produced within scope, on schedule, and on budget. Also, identify ongoing evaluation and maintenance needs
  • Plan for evaluation throughout the project (front-end, iterative, and summative) and identify when to engage in user testing; identify when to implement changes in response to findings. Also interpret previous project data in order to inform new decisions in regards to both UX and design
  • When a stand-alone project, the EDPM collaborates with Exhibition Directors to explore ideas for potential technology or digital-based experiences that meet content, design, and institutional goals.
  • When dealing with outside contractors, liaise between the department and the contractor, and establish a blended team of both internal and external team members. Lead all communications and presentations; serve as point-person on behalf of the FM team. Also, produce RFPs, manage contracts and vendor paperwork, and work to ensure contract compliance
  • Collaborate with various departments to plan for project installation and deployment logistics within the museum and gallery infrastructure, especially including IT, Media Services (A/V integration and maintenance), and FP&O (Engineering)
  • Liaise between FM and outside organizations and collaborators when appropriate. Act as spokesperson for the project to outside groups, and serve as a conduit of information, and mediates this information exchange, as necessary
  • Provide resources, documentation, and reports to other departments as necessary, including budget reports and written narratives when managing projects with fundraising requirements and draft articles for publications (such as donor newsletters) when requested

Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree required
  • Highly developed organizational qualities that include the ability to work on multiple complex initiatives at the same time
  • Excellent communication skills (written, interpersonal, public speaking)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams and promote collaboration
  • Experience with developing RFPs, contracts, budgets, and schedules, as well as tracking and managing assets, including rights and permissions for outsourced material
  • Familiarity with software and platform capabilities as well as current equipment and hardware technologies
  • Familiarity with MS Office, Google products, various project-management platforms, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, and various CMS platforms; be willing to learn new programs as needed
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics and ability to deploy data and/or reports
  • Museum experience preferred with a background in digital or media production, museum studies, or related field
