Visitor Services Lead Cashier

Our Mission: Since the 1893 World Columbian Exposition, our organization has aimed to connect people to the natural environment and human history.

The Field Museum is in search of a full-time Visitor Services Lead Cashier to join our team!

The Visitor Services department prioritizes customer service, revenue generation, attendance tracking, and employee engagement in service of the Museum’s mission. The Lead Cashier supports the broader Visitor Services management team and oversight of the Floor Operations to facilitate an A-list public experience. 95% of the Lead Cashier’s time will be dedicated to public floor oversight and support.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Cashiering and being your coworkers’ first point of contact for difficult transactions, calling for assistance, keeping breaks on schedule, etc.
  • Assisting Management with training new hires and temporary staff on the register.
  • Working with Management to reallocate staff to other projects when attendance flow is light and sending staff to other doors when assistance is needed elsewhere.
  • Operate and Maintain the Visitor Center, Guest Locker Room, and administrative oversight.
  • 3D Theater Operations training and maintaining the 3D Theater appearance.
  • Maintaining the appearance of the public areas of the Museum.

To Qualify:

  • You must be a full-time employee willing to work 5 days a week.
  • You must currently be working or be willing to work weekends and holidays.
  • You must have a superior understanding of ACME and admissions operations.
  • You must have an exemplary history with the Department’s internal policies and procedures, particularly pertaining to the cashier post. This includes but is not limited to breaks, cash handling, upselling, customer service, and proper data entry.

Qualifications:

  • 5-7 years of customer service experience required; experience in a museum or cultural institution preferred

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)

  • Microsoft and Google Suite experience is required

  • Weekend, holiday, and some after-hours availability is required

  • Must be positive, proactive, personable, and empathetic

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred
